Gombe Stream National Park

Gombe Stream National Park

Just 16kms north of Kigoma, Gombe Stream is the smallest (52 square kilometers) but probably the most inspiring of the national parks and only accessible by boat from Kigoma. It covers a strip of hilly country rising from the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. The variation in altitude and the variety of habitat makes the park one of the country’s most rewarding places for observing flora and fauna. Made famous by Jane Goodall in the 1960’s, the family of chimpanzees are the star attraction of the park. The walking safaris are not too strenuous, but you need to be reasonably fit. Night tours can also be arranged. We arrange all flights and bookings.

It is around a 12 hour drive from Mwanza to Kigoma, including a trip on the Kamanga ferry. We recommend you stop off in the sleepy town of Kigoma for one night before embarking on the 2 to 3 hour boat journey to the national park.
